Teaching and Lesson Ideas
- Give students a card with a level of society on it (king, nobility, knights and peasants) ask them to arrange themselves into how they think society would have been structured
- Put 'King John' 'on trial' and ask students to research what he did, make 'King John' aware of what he did and the impact it had on society and the barons: hot seating.
- Do a card sort on the clauses of the Magna Carta, true and false or headings they might fall under
- Ask students to compare the clauses of the Magna Carta to the declaration of human rights, look for differences, compare and contrast
- Ask students to write their own clauses for the Magna Carta or rules for the King to follow, be able to justify them
- Assess the Magna Carta as a historical source for its reliability and values
- Compare the structure of todays government to the medieval one, compare for strengths and limitations
